Virtual Design - Small Hall Bathroom-Door County, WI
I recently wrapped up a nice little virtual design project for clients in Door County, Wisconsin. The project included both the Master Bath, which hadn’t been touched since the home was built in 1984, and a small hall bathroom that had undergone a DIY update about 15 years ago. For this post I am focusing on the transformation that took place in the homeowner’s tiny, 5x8 foot hall bath. Once you see the before and the after you I think you will be convinced that beauty and class can be brought to any space, no matter how small.
The homeowners had done an update on this bath several years ago on their own. They installed stock cabinetry from a local box store and did all the work themselves.. At the time they felt storage was a priority, but as time went on and guests used this bathroom for overnight visits, the counterspace they sacrificed for storage became sorely missed. Not to mention the floor to ceiling cabinets had a crowding effect that just wasn’t working in this tiny hall bath.
I started by getting the dimensions of the bathroom from the homeowner along with their idea for how they wanted the bathroom to look and function. Then I went to work formulating a plan to transform this space. Nothing was moved in this bathroom so the floor plan remained the same so the main objectives in the bathroom were to improve function and elevate the style. As per my virtual design service, I provided my client with a plan, product selection and cabinet specification and the homeowners managed the project from there. They worked with a local cabinet showroom to purchase the cabinets, I helped them to order light fixtures, mirror and hardware, and the work for the project was done in part by the homeowner and in part by local contractors.
I just love how this space turned out. I mean what a difference from where the room started. to make this bathroom more functional I opted for a 60” vanity and eliminated the floor to ceiling cabinets. I specified a higher vanity and comfort height toilet, because that’s just good ergonomics! A simple towel rack provide just enough space to linens. I would love to see what areas I can help you with in your home. As you can see from this humble little hall there is no space to small!
